Gone are the old days of dingy, musty smelling opp shops crammed full of unwanted and unloved cast offs. The new Salvation Army Family Store in Caloundra West is bright and airy and huge. Did I mention how absolutely gigantic it is? Massive. Absolutely ginormous.
The new Salvos Family Store is in a prime spot at 39 Caloundra Road, right between Andersen’s Carpet and BCF and takes up the whole building in the middle of the complex. There’s plenty of parking and it’s easy to get in and out either directly from Caloundra Road or from around the back in Geoffrey Street.
The shop is split into two rooms. The first room is where you’ll find all the clothes and shoes. They have miles of clothes racks and there really is something for everyone.
Guys, if you need to dress up for a job interview or a wedding and don’t want to fork out for a brand new suit, the Salvos have a great selection of suits and jackets in excellent condition for very little money. Let’s face it, suits are not something most Sunny Coast blokes wear on a daily basis, so why pay hundreds of dollars on something that will just sit in the wardrobe until next time you need it?
Girls, they also have you covered with a great selection of dresses that would suit any occasion, from the races to a friend’s wedding. Their range of shoes is also impressive. They have every thing from ultra-casual thongs and sandals to killer heels on the shelves, and many of them look almost new.
Kids grow so quickly that buying them brand new clothes seems a complete waste. And when the Salvos have a whole rack dedicated to great kids clothes you really don’t need to buy brand new.
Don’t wear yourself out browsing the clothes in the first room. The second room is just as big again and that’s where you’ll find everything you need for your home.
I was surprised and impressed with the number of good quality beds and mattresses they have available for sale. The mattresses are very clean and in top condition so if you need a bed for the spare room, or can’t afford to spend hundreds (and hundreds) of dollars on a new one, a mattress from the Salvos might fit the bill. They also have a good range of bedroom furniture, bookcases and bedside lamps, so you could completely redecorate on a very small budget.
But you don’t have to stop there! Once you’ve finished the bedroom, you can redecorate your dining room and lounge room. The Salvos have some lovely dining suites of various styles, like this solid timber Bali style 6 seat setting that was only $350. It was in great condition, too.
There’s a great wall of china and glass in the back room, and it’s chock-a-block full of cookware, crockery, pots and pans, candlesticks, jugs, cups and glasses of all kinds.
Once you have your lounge room sorted and have a nice comfy lounge ready to go, you’ll want to stock up on reading material and DVDs. Again, there are so many to choose from that you might even be able to cancel your Netflix subscription!
If you’re a fan of opp shops you’ll love the new Salvos Family Store in Caloundra. So head down for a browse and see what gems you can find. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes, because you’ll probably be there a while!
